About Ronco
In 1900, John S. Robilio, Sr. came to Memphis, Tennessee, from Bassignana, Italy. Together he and wife Jennie, a native of Memphis, opened a successful grocery store in town. Robillo quickly tapped his Italian roots and found a niche making and selling spaghetti to other stores around town.
In 1920, Thomas A. Cuneo joined Robilio in the grocery and food-importing business, which included cheeses, anchovies, sardines, and specialty items. By 1929, pasta sales had grown so much that larger manufacturing equipment was needed. So a pasta partnership was officially started…and the Ronco company was born.
Its first plant was in a four-story building at 124 North Front Street. It later expanded into the building that eventually became Memphis City Hall.
